Updated garden pics

May 12, 2009

Over the weekend, the hubby and I went out to the garden – the first time all week we were able to get out due to the constant rain.  Things looked good!! Weeds were everywhere, but our lettuce is getting a bit bigger and so was everything else!

The strawberry plants are starting to put out runners on both sides of the plant now.  Oops! I didn’t know they would do that, and they are fairly close to the plot next to us…I guess we will just have to keep them trimmed on that side.

And finally – the golden chard is just putting up it’s tiny leaves!

Here’s a close-up:

The hubby is not exactly excited by the chard, as neither he nor I have ever had some.  But I figure, we’ve both done spinach and broccoli rabe before and liked it, so this’ll be ok too.

Things we have not seen come up yet at all:  carrots, brussels sprouts and sugarsnap peas.  But the peas we just planted, so it’s probably a bit soon.  However, I think the carrots were in before the chard…hmm…

Unless it rains tonight, we’re going to go back out to the garden to plant the tomato, zucchini and pepper plants we bought at the farmer’s market this week.  I can’t wait to get them in the soil.

Yum, I love Chard, it’s my favorite cooking green, try the recipe Fettuccine with Swiss Chard, Currants, Walnuts, and Brown Butter from our CSA’s website

Ooh that sounds delish! Can’t wait to try it when they are harvestable.
